Day 1 is in the books. We got (almost) everyone logged into Google Classroom, took our class survey, got our Remind information and covered our SLAT rules (Sit Up, Listen, Ask/Answer and Track the Speaker). Then we played a pretty awesome multiplication game... for which I owe some people candy! Looking forward to Monday!

... is the BIG DAY!
Dear HMS Parents and Students, My name is Mr. Dossett and I will be teaching the Honors Algebra and Intermediate Algebra courses at Heath Middle School this year. I am really looking forward to an fantastic new school year! I wanted to take just a moment to welcome you back, introduce myself and cover a couple of quick items for this year: The quickest and easiest way to get in touch with me is by email: [email protected]. Communication with parents is very important to me, so I typically check email often throughout the day and evening. Supplies Lists are available here: Honors Algebra Supplies List (7th & 8th) Intermediate Algebra Supplies List (7th & 8th) This is an ADVANCED MATH class. Student expectations for these classes are much higher than in a standard math class. Please review the student expectations document. Below are a few of these expectations: Classroom Behavior - Behavior Contracts will come home in the next few days for you to read and sign Academic Expectations - In an advanced class, the teacher’s primary job is to challenge the students and our class expectations will be very high. We will be covering a lot of advanced content and covering it quickly. Discipline, hard work initiative and positive attitudes will be required. Some students who have typically received A’s in previous classes may receive their first B or C. This is the nature of an advanced course. Complete Assignments - Students will have homework almost every night. They will also have monthly Accelerated Math assignments and periodic projects to complete. Failure to complete these assignments will seriously impact their grade. Consistent Attendance - We will cover important concepts *every day*. Students who miss that content must use the resources available to them to get the content they missed (textbook, class website, internet, after-school tutoring). If you have questions, thoughts or concerns, I invite you to contact me any time. I am looking forward to a terrific year! See you tomorrow! Thank you, Mr Dossett See ya in 15 hours! |
