Our first Exam is Monday. Exams count 40% of student's quarterly grade (per HMS Math Department). Here are some things you should know.
1. The exam will cover ALL of Unit 1 (LT1-8) 2. Exams are roughly 70% multiple choice and 30% short answer/extended response. 3. Students will have to study for the exam. Please use the quiz study guides I have provided to review. The material will be the same. I have explained to students how to study: a. Work through the problems in the study guides Unit 1 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6fqN0nIFIuZOVk5c... Unit 2 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6fqN0nIFIuZbEd4O... b. Check the answers c. If you get it wrong, figure out how and work through them again the right way 4. A student who has done well on the quizzes should expect to study no less than 20-30 minutes. If they have struggled, they will need to put in more time. They may need to go back and watch the videos. This is also a great time to complete the Accelerated Math goals in the "CLASS" group to prepare. 5. Students have struggled most on LT6 and LT7. Make sure they have memorized Commutative, Associative and Distributive properties and how to use them - especially the Distributive Property - to write equivalent expressions. REMIND your students: THEY CAN DO THIS! You guys are a FANTASTIC group of parents! I've had so many contacts with parents who are willing to go the extra mile to help their kids succeed this year! I have a middle-schooler too and I know school can be stressful for parents too. What they are learning this year is essential for their success in the years to come. Encourage them, work with them when you can and let me know if you need anything. Thanks! Mr D
