I hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday. I witnessed many of the students at the dance loading up on massive quantities of sugar and caffeine, so... well, at least they should crash pretty soon. You've got a lot of sixth grade dancers!
Here are the important bits: 1. Quiz Monday - Unit 2, Learning Targets 1-6. Quizzes are a bit more difficult than tests, so make sure they take some time to review the work we've done writing and solving equations from word problems. 2. Quiz Retakes - Today was the last day for students to retake Quiz 2. However, there are still a few students who have not taken care of this. I will be sending those names to Mr. Blackwell for Monday. On the bright side, pretty much EVERYONE who has retaken their quizzes has at least a C in the class - most higher. Most who have not re-taken have D's or F's. Don't waste this opportunity. Please remember that any student who scored below 70 MUST retake the quizzes. 3. Homework. There are 4-8 homework packets from Unit 1 that were turned in without names and are sitting on the back table of my classroom. If your student is missing a grade for homework on Infinite Campus, make sure they check this out. 4. Tutoring Tuesdays! I would encourage any students to come and join us for tutoring on Tuesdays from 2:30 until 3:00. Currently we have three students who are attending and it's a great chance to clear up an problems. Obviously it's free, but I do require that parents be present to pick up their students by 3:05, because I have kids to pick up too. Thank you for every time you have to listen to your student groans about math homework. I know it's not easy. In fact, it's exhausting, but it will pay off in the end. Fight the good fight, and here's a quick quote for the battles (this one challenges me as a parent *and* a teacher): “Western parents worry a lot about their children's self-esteem. But as a parent, one of the worst things you can do for your child's self-esteem is to let them give up. On the flip side, there's nothing better for building confidence than learning you can do something you thought you couldn't.” ― Amy Chua, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother Have a terrific weekend!
