KAHOOT REVIEW - We did our review in Kahoot today. Students can also practice this at home. It's crazy simple and the kids love it. They can probably show you how to do it. You will need at least two devices: one device will control the Kahoot game, any other devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc...) can be used to play.
Follow these instructions: 1. Pick a device to control Kahoot. WIth that device, click on your student's hour below . 2. Choose "Classic" Mode. 3. The Kahoot will take a moment to load and present you with a Game Pin (see example below). 4. Your students will know what to do from here. Anyone who wants to play can use their device to join the game, as follows: * On all device, go to http://kahoot.it * Enter the game pin displayed on the screen of the device controlling the kahoot. * Choose a gaming name. 5. When everyone has joined, choose "Start" and have fun and study! Parents, competing with your kids might add to the fun! They can show you how smart they are!

STUDY DIVISION PROBLEMS - Our math 6 classes are really struggling with division. I really want to build their confidence and abilities, so please have them work on the two worksheets below over the weekend in preparation for the quiz/test next week (correct answers included!). Even doing only a few of the problems will really help (You don't have to print them out, just work from the pdf doc). Division Problem Worksheet Division Word Problems Worksheet MONDAY QUIZ MOVED TO TUESDAY - Please make sure your students study for the quiz this weekend. However, because of some scheduling of events at the school Thursday and Friday, I will bepostponing the Monday quiz until Tuesday. Dear Parents,
1. Please be sure to take the Parent Survey! 2. Review the Supply List Below Thanks! Mr. Dossett It's about time to get school supplies. So, here's the...
Stuff You Need! PENCILS Store some at home, everyone runs out by November LARGE 3-RING BINDER Make sure it's LARGE - All notes/packets go here! LOOSE-LEAF PAPER Store some at home, everyone runs out by November COMPOSITION BOOK GLUE STICKS A LOT of these - Store some at home CALCULATOR You MUST have this by December COLORED MARKERS We will keep these in class for Interactive Notebooks COLORED HIGHLIGHTERS We will keep these in class for Interactive Notebooks SCISSORS We will keep these in class for Interactive Notebooks GRAPH PAPER (optional) We will keep these in class for Interactive Notebooks As you know, each Math 6 student is expected to complete 20 Accelerated Math objectives each quarter. This expectation is similar to IXL expectations in previous grades and will count as a quiz grade. Some students are making good progress on these objectives. A few have even met their expectations. However, many students are quite a bit behind since Christmas is only 15 school days away. Until now, students have been working on their accelerated math and scanning primarily in class. With some students so far behind, I wanted to make you aware that students can do accelerated math online at home. It's actually quite simple: You can find instructions and additional help here.
I hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday. I witnessed many of the students at the dance loading up on massive quantities of sugar and caffeine, so... well, at least they should crash pretty soon. You've got a lot of sixth grade dancers!
Here are the important bits: 1. Quiz Monday - Unit 2, Learning Targets 1-6. Quizzes are a bit more difficult than tests, so make sure they take some time to review the work we've done writing and solving equations from word problems. 2. Quiz Retakes - Today was the last day for students to retake Quiz 2. However, there are still a few students who have not taken care of this. I will be sending those names to Mr. Blackwell for Monday. On the bright side, pretty much EVERYONE who has retaken their quizzes has at least a C in the class - most higher. Most who have not re-taken have D's or F's. Don't waste this opportunity. Please remember that any student who scored below 70 MUST retake the quizzes. 3. Homework. There are 4-8 homework packets from Unit 1 that were turned in without names and are sitting on the back table of my classroom. If your student is missing a grade for homework on Infinite Campus, make sure they check this out. 4. Tutoring Tuesdays! I would encourage any students to come and join us for tutoring on Tuesdays from 2:30 until 3:00. Currently we have three students who are attending and it's a great chance to clear up an problems. Obviously it's free, but I do require that parents be present to pick up their students by 3:05, because I have kids to pick up too. Thank you for every time you have to listen to your student groans about math homework. I know it's not easy. In fact, it's exhausting, but it will pay off in the end. Fight the good fight, and here's a quick quote for the battles (this one challenges me as a parent *and* a teacher): “Western parents worry a lot about their children's self-esteem. But as a parent, one of the worst things you can do for your child's self-esteem is to let them give up. On the flip side, there's nothing better for building confidence than learning you can do something you thought you couldn't.” ― Amy Chua, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother Have a terrific weekend! First full week down! It's been a good week. I'm proud of your students and the progress we have made. Some of them are even working ahead! Here are the important items for next week.
Here are two important items for parents and students as we begin Week 2.
